The headphones should also function under a top-of-the-range Hansgrohe raindance shower head (a little pro cycling sponsor reference there). Battery Life (Or Do They Always Need Chargin’?) The Aftershokz Trekz Titanium avoid shutting you off from the outside world by using a technology called “bone conduction”. This sends vibrations through your cheekbones, where the sound is then processed in your inner ear. It means your ears are still free to hear the outside world, such as that terrifying taxi hurtling by at 50mph in a 30mph zone. The loops therefore compete for ear real estate (ear-l estate) with the arms of my glasses. In use, though, the two ear tenants reside harmoniously together. The headphones are rated to IP55, which equates to basic dust- and water-resistance. You shouldn’t have any problems wearing these in the rain, and they can happily cope with a bit of sweat. The Trekz Titanium are available in either blue, green or grey finishes.

I’ve been meaning to get a set of Aftershokz for ages. But like most things that involve spending some money, I conveniently forgot to take any action. Finally I thought I’d buy a pair and review them for this ‘ere blog(kz). Links To Buy The Aftershokz

Frequently Asked Questions about AfterShokz Trekz Air Headphone

The controls are simple, too; on the right-hand side are volume buttons, which send a tone to the speakers with every press (and a higher-pitch tone when the maximum volume is reached). That's important because, as open-ear headphones, there is a risk of sound leakage. I’d have preferred the charging point to be located on the left-hand side, since the right feels cluttered. In addition, the rubber flap that covers the Micro USB point feels very much like the volume buttons when you’re blindly fumbling for the controls. One of our biggest gripes about the Trekz Air has to be its short battery life. Yes, we realise that it's lightweight design is to blame, and we're loathe to criticise that, but just six hours does put them in the dreaded 'day use' category. All AfterShokz headphones are water-resistant, meaning they can handle rain or sweat. However not all models are suited for swimming or showering. They suit my needs perfectly. I can listen to a productivity-improving podcast, whilst still being aware of all the sounds and, most importantly, other motorised road users around me. They’re sufficiently loud enough for my needs and the sound quality is clear.

They might be a unique proposition, but the Trekz Air are no heavyweight; they weigh a mere 30g. However, the soft silicon covering together with the careful positioning of the electronics means that the Trekz Air tend to stay in one place, however active. In fact, they barely move whatever it is you're doing. Like I said above, the Aftershokz are not suited to competing in very noisy environments. Neither am I, so this is fine for me. I’ve Got A Noise BleedPerformance Cycling Limited 2023. Tredz is a trading name of Performance Cycling Limited. All Rights Reserved Given that my main use case is whilst riding solo on the bike, and I’m not listening to something questionable (in my humble opinion), I’m not too worried if there is a little noise bleed. Are They Waterproof? With your ears exposed you’ll have to contend with some wind noise when cycling or running, but in my experience, it never proved too distracting. The Trekz Titanium pair with your audio source over Bluetooth 4.1, and I didn’t encounter any problems with the wireless reliability. Range is rated at a standard 10 metres. The Trekz loop over the ears, with speakers positioned on the bones (obviously) in front of the earhole (is that the term?). That's partly to do with the materials used and the weighting and positioning of the various components, but it's also got to do with where the speakers themselves sit on your head. At least on the face that we tested them on, the Trekz Air sat comfortably within a small dimple area at the top of the jawbone. It's a really subtle, careful, clever design. I’ve had a pair of these for a while now, bought with the express intention of using them on the bike but have never tried them…. sounds like I should get on with it Reply Weighing 1.06 ounces and IP55 certified, Air is by far the most weightless, natural-feeling sports headphone we’ve created. Designed with the hardest working athletes in mind, Air becomes a part of you as you train to achieve your toughest goals while staying connected to the world around you.

These are best used with the headphones’ earplug mode, which lowers the volume reduces the bass significantly, compensating for the effect of closing your ear canals (sounds transmitted through bone conduction always sound deeper, and with earplugs you’re not hearing any ‘leaking’). Vocal booster mode, on the other hand, boosts the higher frequencies. That said, I do sense that you have to set the volume towards the upper end of what the headphones are capable of (or what the iPhone – in my case – will send down to pipe). In essence it appears that rather than having mini speakers that fire sound waves directly at your ear drums (like standard headphones), the sound-emitting bits of the Aftershokz sit just in front of your lug holes. My hearing aids started with Chinese language and now I don't know how to leave them with Spanish, please help I turn on the headphones, I activate the bluetooth of the mobile phone, tablet or any other device but I cannot find the number of headphones as if they were turned off. How can I solve this problem?

There are dual noise-cancelling microphones for hands-free calling. These proved to work great. Callers could hear my voice clearly – even while I was cycling – and they came through loud and clear, too. I’d already got used to pairing them with my iPhone (keep the on/off switch presses for 5 or so seconds until the small LED indicator flashes blue and red; select Trekz on the phone’s Bluetooth screen). So there is indeed conduction happening, but you still need to be aware of the sound leakage. If you’re planning to wear these headphones outdoors while running or cycling they should be absolutely fine. Turn them up in an office environment and you’ll eventually annoy everyone around you. However, the first thing to suffer when you put a headphone outside the ear is bass. So the Titanium are bone conduction headphones, essentially sending the vibrations from low-frequency sound into the top of the wearer’s cheekbones on their way to the cochlea in the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum. Interestingly, there are ear plugs also included, which you can use to improve sound quality. It’s similar to what Shokz does with its swim-proof headphones, and it certainly has the desired effect of providing something more rewarding. You just have to be willing to plug your ears up, which does pretty much defeat the purpose of open ear headphones.

Behind your ear, towards the right bone conduction transducer, you’ll find a volume up button that also serves as a power button and a volume down button. Next to these sit a Micro USB port for charging the headphones. Noise Canceling is a technique that is mainly used in headphones. Active noise control is used to lower or eliminate the influence of ambient noise. It is this ability to retain situational awareness that makes the Aftershokz Trekz Titanium a considerably safer option if you must have music and audio while cycling or running – even if their actual sound quality is far from stellar. Headline message: I feel comfortable wearing them out in public (and I’m as self conscious as the next buttoned up Englishman). Are They Comfortable To Wear?
